Founder of Sprout Literacy, Reading Therapist, Licensed Educator, and Mom on a Mission.

Hi, I’m Meggie—reading coach, mom, educator, and the heart behind Sprout Literacy. I provide 1:1, evidence-based literacy instruction to help children become confident, successful readers and writers. I specialize in supporting struggling learners, including those with dyslexia, using prescriptive and personalized instruction that works.

But more than that, I’m a parent who’s walked this road myself.

My Story

Ever since I was little, I knew I belonged in education. I earned my degree in Elementary and Special Education with a reading endorsement and jumped into the classroom, teaching middle school Language Arts.

And early on, I realized two important things:

  1. I loved teaching reading.

  2. I had more students who couldn't read than I knew how to help.

Then I Became a Mom

I stepped away from the classroom to focus on my family—but education came right along with me. When my son started missing speech milestones and later struggled with basic academic skills—like letters, numbers, and memory recall—my “teacher brain” and “mom gut” both lit up with concern.

After his second year of kindergarten, we pursued testing. The diagnosis: dyslexia.

*Side-Note: A huge piece of the puzzle that I wish I would have known was that speech delays are a HUGE red flag for future reading struggles. My son was in speech therapy for 6 years. I would have done so much differently if I had known what that would forecast for him.

I Became the Advocate I Needed

I dove headfirst into research—listening to every podcast I could find, joining literacy advocate groups, following science-of-reading leaders on social media, and connecting with a community of like-minded parents and educators.

When I listened to Sold a Story, everything clicked. I realized very quickly that the traditional reading system, which many of our children receive, was not going to cut it.

That was the moment I discovered The Science of Reading, and I never looked back.

Why I Chose EBLI

Determined to help my son (and finally equipped with real answers), I trained in EBLI—Evidence-Based Literacy Instruction, a speech-to-print approach built on current reading science. I had no school mandates, no curriculum limits—just the goal of finding what worked best for my child.

And guess what?
EBLI worked. Really well.

Explicit, systematic instruction didn’t just help my son—it changed the way I saw literacy instruction forever. I earned my EBLI certification and continue to grow my practice as I work toward additional training through ThinkSRSD.

Why Sprout Literacy

Since then, I’ve supported many students—and every single time, I walk away from sessions in awe of how fast they grow and how much they love learning to read.

At Sprout Literacy, I combine evidence-based instruction with encouragement, fun, and a deep respect for each child’s journey. I know what it’s like to watch your child struggle—and I also know the joy of watching them break free.

If you're here, you're looking for something different.
Something that works.
I’d be honored to support you and your child on this journey.
